T
his time, while considering the fourth WOCUE rasanavam – something special captures, we wondered if any one could have taken their eyes away from the beauty of the brush strokes by the sun on this little green globe, amazingly captured by Sri Kundan De with his lense.
Arupa Lahiri , the renowned dancer, underlines her name (literally means without form, which really is the ultimate form of beauty) with her presence- that is perfectly in tune with the nature! Her expression creates life over the broken wood on the right. The colors in the frame, let it be the nature or the costume, seems interwoven, even the contrast ones. Simply, ‘a poetry in the lights’ would be an apt usage, especially as Arupa Lahiri herself is a literature lover and a writer.

ARUPA LAHIRI
Arupa Lahiri, one of the noted young Bharatnatyam dancers of the country, started learning dance at the age of four. Later she did her higher academic studies in English literature from Presidency College, Kolkata whose rebel ambiance she believes, taught her how to dream.
Giving wings to her passion, she flew to Chennai, where she met her Guru- Padmashri Smt. Chitra Visweswaran, the legendary dancer and choreographer who gave her the powerful mantra, “To be a dancer, think, breathe, eat and sleep dance”. Like fire burns to create gold, the training that her Guru gave and still continues to give for over last seventeen years, helps Arupa to uphold the tradition. Her next phase in dance career began once she shifted to New Delhi, where opportunities to interact with multiple art forms ignited her creativity. It was Dr. Usha RK, who shaped the independent artist in Arupa. Solo thematic productions like Ahalya, Madurai Khestram, Gajalakshmi and Kamala earner wide audience appreciation for Arupa. Though she explores and experiments with various challenging and esoteric themes, never does she try to break the traditional form and format.
National Senior Scholarship, Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Tata Fellowship from TATA, ICCR empanelment, Festival of India empanelment, Grade in Doordarshan are a few of the achievements that came her way. She had performed in different Nations across the globe.
