A rt forms, especially Classical, have always possessed an enormous amount of beauty, refinement and divinity which have never ceased to charm and amaze people. In such an effort to popularize the culture of Sattriya dance and promote classical art forms, Gandharba Kala Kendra in collaboration with Kamrup Academy H.S. School and Kamrup Academy Alumni Association organized a seven days workshop on Apsara Nritya from the 13th July to 20th July, 2018 at Kamrup Academy H.S. School. Workshop on Apsara Nritya About 50 students took part in the only one of its kind workshop under the initiative and guidance of Dreamly Gogoi and Atul Chandra Bhuyan Bayan. The main motive of the workshop was to urge the youth and children alike to enhance their dancing skills and capabilities and avail the opportunity for their better future. O n 9th June, a Carnatic Vocal 'Katcheri' by the renowned musician Cherthala Dr. K.N. Renganatha Sharma was held at Shanmukhananda Hall, Mumbai. Sri Kumbhakonam Gopinath. M.R on Violin, Cherthala Sri R. Ananthakrishnan on Mrudangam, Sri Amaravathi Sundaram Krishnan on Mukharshank, Sri Mumbai Raghunath on Thamburu were the supporting the artists. Dr. Sharma began the Katcheri with the Kanada Ata-Thaala Varnam 'neranammitinayya nityamuga....' by Sri. Poochi Srinivasa Iyyangar. Seeking the blessing from the Lord Ganesha, ‘Siddhi Arul Sivasakthi Baalakane’ a Keerthanam by Sri Neelakanta Sivan in raga Natta was presented. It was set to Chaappu thaalam. Next to follow was the sub-main composition of the concert. He picked out Sri. O n the fifteenth death anniversary of the Legendary Odissi Maestro - Pathmasree Guru Pankaj Charan Das, ‘Yuga Gandharva’ award, instituted by 'Guru Pankaj Das Odissi Research Foundation', is presented to Sri Lucky Prajna Pratisthita Mohanty, Sri Saswat Joshi and Sri Pravat Kumar Swain, three high-spirited and effervescent young male dancers. In a function carried out at Bhanja Kala Mandap, Bhubaneswar on 11th June 2018, Padmashree Kumkum Mohanty, Sri Antaryami Mishra and Sri Shantanu Prusty handed over the awards to them. Sri Sarat Das, Director & CEO of the 'Guru Pankaj Das Odissi Research Foundation' was present. Guru Sri Pankaj Charan Das, the Aadi Guru of Odissi dance, was the one who took Odissi out of the Temples boundaries. He was awarded Pathmasree in 1992 by Govt. of India for his valuable contributions to the artform. Vadakke Manalath Govindan Nair, popularly known as Kalamandalam Gopi (Gopi Aasaan), is a Legendary figure in Kathakali. Though he is famous for his 'Pacha Veshams' like Nalan, Karnan, he had portrayed his expertise in characters Arjuna (Subhadraharanam), Yudhishthira (Kirmeeravadham) etc too. 'Kathi veshams' like Ravana, Keechaka; 'Chuvappu Thaadi Veshams' ( characters in red beard) like Bali by Gopi Aasaan too had conquered the hearts of the Kathakali fans.
