DLit. for Gopi Aasaan, Prof. M.K.Sanu, Dr. N.V.P. Unithiri

Sree Sankara Samskritham University, Keralam will be conferring Dlit. for the renowned Kathakali exponent Pathmasree Kalamandalam Gopi, writer Prof. MK.Sanu, Samskritham scholar Prof. NVP Unithiri for the lifetime contribution in their respective fields.


Vadakke Manalath Govindan Nair, popularly known as Kalamandalam Gopi (Gopi Aasaan), is a Legendary figure in Kathakali. Though he is famous for his 'Pacha Veshams' like Nalan, Karnan, he had portrayed his expertise in characters Arjuna (Subhadraharanam), Yudhishthira (Kirmeeravadham) etc too. 'Kathi veshams' like Ravana, Keechaka; 'Chuvappu Thaadi Veshams' ( characters in red beard) like Bali by Gopi Aasaan too had conquered the hearts of the Kathakali fans. The Government of India had awarded him the civilian honor of Pathmasri in 2009.




Prof. M. K. Sanu is a prominent Malayalam literary figure. He is a retired professor and has imprinted his name as a critic, biographer, editor, translator, journalist, orator, social activist and humanist. He has penned over thirty six books, translated four and edited ten. He is a permanent member of International body for Human rights.


N.V.P. Unithiri, did the Master of Arts from the University of Calicut (1973) and Doctor of Philosophy, Kerala University (1979). He started his professional Career as a primary school Teacher (1965-1975). He had worked as a Lecturer Kerala University (1975-1978), Lecturer in department Sanskrit University Calicut, (1978), professor (1988-1996), head of the department Sanskrit India, 1985-1996. Principal dean of studies Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskritham, Kalady. He was appointed as the Principal Deanship (Pro-Vice Chancellor) at Sree Sankaracharya Samaskritham University, Kalady for three years. He is an author of many noted books.
