Art forms, especially Classical, have always possessed an enormous amount of beauty, refinement and divinity which have never ceased to charm and amaze people. In such an effort to popularize the culture of Sattriya dance and promote classical art forms, Gandharba Kala Kendra in collaboration with Kamrup Academy H.S. School and Kamrup Academy Alumni Association organized a seven days workshop on Apsara Nritya from the 13th July to 20th July, 2018 at Kamrup Academy H.S. School.
The program titled Nritya Garima-2018 which started from 5pm was inaugurated by Sangeet Natak Awardee Haricharan Bhuyan and began with the lightning of the lamp by eminent dignitaries, Satradhikar Hari Prasanna Mahanta, Adhyapak Sailen Saikia, Hemanta Kumar Kalita, and Upen Chandra Gogoi, president, Gandharba Kalakendra. The program was dedicated in memory of Guru Lt. Jibanjit Dutta and was followed by a shraddhanjali offered in his memory. Later his wife Runu Dutta was felicitated by Dreamly Gogoi with a memento and poem dedicated to the Guru, written by Dreamly and Minakshi Kumar. The students of Gandharba Kala Kendra along with Dreamly Gogoi also performed on the poem with the help of Sattriya.
The cultural program began with a Borgeet performed by the students of the institution which was directed by Nandita Das Bayan. It was followed by the felicitation and performance of Borish Dutta. Then the lively performance of Bahar Ramdani dance directed by Jagat Barbayan and Dreamly Gogoi and performed by the students kept the audience elated.
Next a performance on Bor Ramdani by Dreamly Gogoi was followed by the felicitation of Guru Gobinda Saikia after which the students of the workshop successfully showcased the Apsara Nritya. It was succeeded by the felicitation of Atul Chandra Bhuyan Bayan for successfully conveying the dance form to a new generation. Then a Khulbadan performance of Pragati Sanskritik Prasikhyan Bikash Kendra, Kahilipara by Biswajit Bordoloi and team elevated the enchanting aura of the evening.
The other beautiful and captivating performances include the Mati Akhora by the newly admitted students of Gandharba Kala Kendra, an attractive duet presentation by Dikshita Borah and Harshita Raichoudhury directed by Paramananda Kakati Barbayan and Dreamly Gogoi, Chali Naas, Jhumura and Rajaghariya Chali Naas. The event came to an end with the felicitation and an energetic and mesmerizing performance of Kathak Guru and performer Hemanta Kumar Kalita and concluded with a Bihu dance by the students of the kalakendra.

Workshop on Apsara Nritya
About 50 students took part in the only one of its kind workshop under the initiative and guidance of Dreamly Gogoi and Atul Chandra Bhuyan Bayan. The main motive of the workshop was to urge the youth and children alike to enhance their dancing skills and capabilities and avail the opportunity for their better future. The inaugural ceremony of the workshop was attended by proficient pillars and eminent personalities of Sattriya and Kathak dance forms including Satradhikar Hari Prasanna Mahanta, Gobinda Saikia, Bipul Das, Adhyapak Sailen Saikia, Gopal Bordoloi and dance critic Atul Dutta in the presence of Dr. Geeta Rani Sharma, principal of Kamrup Academy and Faizul Haque, secretary of Kamrup Academy Alumni Association. Guru Padmashree Nrityacharyee Jatin Goswami attended as the resource person who blessed and encouraged the students not only to perform but sensitize towards the art and form of dance.

Closing ceremony
The closing ceremony of the workshop was held on 21st July at the Srimanta Madhabdev International Auditorium, Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in relation with the successful completion of fifteen years of Gandharba Kala Kendra. A centre for learning & exhibiting Assamese art and culture, Gandharba Kala Kendra was established in 2003 and founded by former Bihu Samraggyee Dreamly Gogoi.
