Nrtya Techniques in Mohiniyattam; book released

Renowned 'Mizhavu' artist and Guru - Padmashri P.K. Narayanan Nambiar released a book ( Malayalam ) - 'Nrthya Sankethangal Mohiniyattathil' written by Dr. Geetha Sivakumar at Palakkad, Keralam.

Over the years, different 'Baanis' or 'Traditions' had contributed a lot in the nourishment of Mohiniyattam. This book -'Nrtya Sankethangal Mohiniyattathil' focuses on 'Kalamandalam baani'.

”Mohiniyattam, a lyrical dance form of Kerala, has a well structured 'prayoga' style in Kerala Kalamandalam Kalaries. This book tends to analyse the techniques of Mohiniyattam adopted by Kerala Kalamandalam so as to consider it as a Lasya Nrtya form. The queries on the techniques of nrtya such as what, why, where, when are the basic thought of this study. It is analysed on the basis of Sanskrit texts, which give us more scientific explanations and principles. Hope this book may be useful to practioners, teachers, students and researchers", said Dr. Geetha, the author.

Geetha Sivakumar who hails from Ottapalam is a disciple of renowned Guru Prof. Kal. Leelaama. She is a first rank holder in M.A Mohiniyattam and has P.Hd in "Nritya Sangethangal Mohiniyattathil" from Kerala Kalamandalam deemed to be University of Art and Culture. She is running a dance school named Sivanjaly at Ottapalam since 1993. She has Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Education and worked as a science teacher for several years.

Prayers through Music, Dr. Bombay Jayashri

S adguru Sainath attained Samadhi on Vijaya Dashami day exactly 100 years ago . In relation to this on 18th Oct. 2018, Vidushi Dr. Bombay will offer the prayers through Music. In August 1918, Shirdi Sai Baba told some of his devotees that he would soon be "leaving his mortal body" . Towards the end of September, he stopped eating. As his condition deteriorated, he asked his disciples to recite holy texts to him and continued to meet visitors. On 15th October 1918, he breathed his last. This year on 18th October 2018, the thithi of Dasami comes after mid day as per Hindu lunar astronomy. Hence Sai Temple all over observe 18th October as Samadhi Centenary.

Violin Maestro, Padmabhushan Sri T.N. Krishnan turns 90

T oday is a red letter day for me as I attended Kanakabhishekam of Prof T N Krishnan Sir and his Dharampatni Smt Kamala Ji on the occasion of 90 th Birth Day celebration of the violin Legend. Amidst the chanting of Vedic mantras, Havan, Pooja to Lord Guruvayurappa, Nadaswaram by Vidwan Seshampatti Sivalimgam, felicitation by Governor of Tamil Nadu the celebration culminated with Abhishekam of the couple from the vessel of yagna rituals with everyone singing Gowri Kalyana Vaibhavame. Post the Abhishekam the Couple were resplendent while seated, as people lined up to touch their feet and obtain Mangala Akshadai. O n the fifteenth death anniversary of the Legendary Odissi Maestro - Pathmasree Guru Pankaj Charan Das, ‘Yuga Gandharva’ award, instituted by 'Guru Pankaj Das Odissi Research Foundation', is presented to Sri Lucky Prajna Pratisthita Mohanty, Sri Saswat Joshi and Sri Pravat Kumar Swain, three high-spirited and effervescent young male dancers. In a function carried out at Bhanja Kala Mandap, Bhubaneswar on 11th June 2018, Padmashree Kumkum Mohanty, Sri Antaryami Mishra and Sri Shantanu Prusty handed over the awards to them. T his time, while considering the fourth WOCUE rasanavam – something special captures, we wondered if any one could have taken their eyes away from the beauty of the brush strokes by the sun on this little green globe, amazingly captured by Sri Kundan De with his lense. Arupa Lahiri , the renowned dancer, underlines her name (literally means without form, which really is the ultimate form of beauty) with her presence- that is perfectly in tune with the nature! Her expression creates life over the broken wood on the right. The colors in the frame, let it be the nature or the costume, seems interwoven, even the contrast ones.
