Mohiniyattam enthusiasts in Kolkata have reason to celebrate as renowned dancer and choreographer Pallavi Krishnan is set to inaugurate the Lasya Akademi of Mohiniyattam in her hometown. This new institution promises to be a beacon for the art form, offering a platform for dance lovers to immerse themselves in the nuances of this classical dance. With Pallavi's dedication to preserving the traditions of Mohiniyattam while bringing in new ideas, this academy is set to become an important cultural center in the city.


Pallavi Krishnan is a celebrated Mohiniyattam performer, choreographer, and teacher with a career marked by artistic excellence and global impact. Trained under eminent gurus at Kerala Kalamandalam and Santiniketan, she has mastered the delicate balance of tradition and innovation, making her performances both deeply rooted and uniquely expressive.


Her dedication to the art form has earned her numerous accolades, including the prestigious Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2023.

As the Artistic Director of Lasya Akademi in Kerala, Pallavi has been instrumental in spreading awareness and appreciation of Mohiniyattam worldwide. She has conducted performances and workshops across more than a dozen countries, introducing diverse audiences to the depth and beauty of this classical dance form. Her ability to blend technical precision with emotive storytelling has garnered critical acclaim.


Pallavi's contributions extend beyond performance; she is a passionate educator committed to nurturing the next generation of artists. Her innovative choreographic works explore new dimensions within Mohiniyattam while preserving its essence, reflecting her vision. Pallavi Krishnan, inspired by the artistic legacies of Tagore and Vallathol, is the only Indian dancer who has trained at both Santiniketan and Kerala Kalamandalam. Settling in Kerala in 1992, she has dedicated herself to Mohiniyattam, under the guidance of renowned gurus like Bharati Shivaji, Kalamandalam Leelaamma, and Kalamandalam Sughandhi.



A recipient of numerous fellowships from India’s Ministry of Culture, she is also an ICCR and Top-Graded Doordarshan artist. Pallavi has performed internationally and led workshops at prestigious events, including the Khajuraho, Konark, Ananya, and Nishagandhi festivals.

New Mohiniyattam institute in Kolkata :

  Pallavi Krishnan is now set to inaugurate her new institution, Lasya Akademi of Mohiniyattam, in Kolkata, her hometown, on December 15, 2024, at 2 PM. The launch will take place at Indoshree Dance Studio, Dumdum, near Dumdum Metro Station.

The event will feature a two-day Mohiniyattam workshop for intermediate and senior dance students across disciplines. Scheduled from 3 PM to 6 PM on December 15 (Sunday) and December 16 (Monday), the workshop will include selected basics, a short dance piece, and studio-recorded music.

Celebrating Fifty Years of Guru Narasimhachari's Kalasamarpana Foundation

K alasamarpana Foundation, a notable academy that have been spreading and training the classical art forms, is completing Fifty Golden Years. It was founded by the Artist couples Guru Narasimhachari and Vasanthalakshmi in 1969. The program titled 'Swarnaanjali' will be conducted on 4th August 2019, Sunday at Narada Gana Sabha, Chennai 5.00 PM - 5.45 PM at Lobby - A walk-through gallery showcasing rare photographs of The Narasimhacharis 5.45 p.m. Auditorium opens for seating. 6.00 - 8.00 p.m 'Swarnaanjali' - An offering of Natyam dedicated to Guru Narasimhachari featuring over 100 artistes.
