SPIC MACAY, igniting the spirit to see beyond...!

The seed sowed, four decades ago, had now grown in to a huge tree providing the shade and fruits for a lot of lovely hearts around. From the single hand that sowed it, after forty one years, there are billions now, to safegaurd the tree and thus making sure that it will go on bestowing the shade and fruits to the future world too! It is the great vision of a Humble Human- Pathmasri Dr. Kiran Seth, the founder of SPIC MACAY that so many youth were able to open their inner eye.

SPIC MACAY is hosting its 6th International Convention in IIT Kharagpur, West Bengal from 3rd to 9th June, 2018. Dr. Seth had given an enlightening message to the whole society in this context :
Seeing beyond what one can see!

Amongst the greatest contributions of India to the world, has been in the development of different techniques to experience exquisite domains of the inner self which are not clearly visible.

Space gets curved due to the effect of gravity & hence light from the stars also gets bent before it reaches our eyes. This was postulated mathematically by Einstein & was later proven experimentally by applied astrophysicists who took photographs of a total solar eclipse and analyzed them. Higgs did something similar with the Boson whose existence was proven by applied physicists at CERN about four decades later. Dark matter, which we cannot observe, comprises of over 80% of all mater in space. Its existence was similarly postulated by Sir Kevin & proven years afterwards by other physicists.

Very abstract & deep truths in science have been revealed largely to great western minds in the recent past. Hypothesized explanations of many fundamental phenomenons have been proven experimentally, but are constantly being revised as we come across brilliant minds proposing new sets of hypothesis through deeper insights which again have to be proven experimentally. A classic example has been the journey for the search of the fundamental particle by scientists through the atom, the electron, proton & neutron, the quark, the boson, with still more to come!

In this part of the world a very similar process of great minds hypothesizing certain truths has taken place. They have proven them experientially. The difference lies in the method of proof – experimental in one case & experiential in the other.

Our scientific laboratories were our ashrams where great research work was carried out in the inward domain. Rishis & sufi saints used the body and mind as their laboratories and were able to infer truths of a very deep, abstract, subtle, inspiring and mystical nature. They developed many techniques like yoga, meditation and our classical arts to reach intense experiential states.

Today, faith in great unseeable truths is becoming superficial & hence show is taking over depth. This can be witnessed in the manner in which our festivals are being celebrated. The ganga aarti conducted at various places along the river has been reduced to a spectacle. Our leading gurus are accepting awards, setting up big corporations, attending world financial conferences, conducting cultural extravaganzas – all to impress upon people the world over that there is something very valuable in India which is gradually getting lost. But in the process we are also losing out on people who can actually enter what I call the alpha domain & stay in there as long as they please. We all experience flashes of this very creative domain, but are not able to sustain our presence in it. For most of us entry & exit take place randomly, while great minds can stay put in the state for as long as they please.

Only when there are a large number of physicists working will an Einstein emerge. Similarly when there are a large number of people striving to unravel the inner domain will a Ramakrishna a Ramana Maharishi or a Nizamuddin Aulia appear.

India may become the leading economic, technological & military power by the year 2050, but India may not remain India. We might lose the results of centuries of experimentation of our ancestors. We all have to make an effort to prevent this from happening.
Another message
The following message from Dr. Kiran Seth is a very valuable one too, especially for those who had registered for the 6th International Convention in IIT Kharagpur, (3rd – 9th June, 2018).

Dear Friends,

It is very nice that you are planning to come for the SPIC MACAY Convention to be held at IIT Kharagpur from the 3rd to the 9th of June. We welcome your participation.

However, I would like to make it clear that this is not a camp or a picnic which you will be attending. We are not expecting you to make friends from all corners of the country and beyond. We are requesting you to make friends with yourself in these 7 days. This would mean, being silent for a major portion of the time that you are there and trying to take the help of all the events, which have been very carefully chosen, in connecting with yourself.

You are anyway connected outwards most of the time. This one week could give you the experience of what it is to connect with the within. For this, a great effort would also have to be made by you. We have worked very hard in providing the ingredients absolutely free for you, but putting them together will have to be done by each one of you individually. For this you will have to sacrifice your cell phone and other electronic gadgets for this week for it is not possible to connect inwards and outwards at the same time. You will also have to attend all the events and be right on time for each one of them. During gaps, some introspection on what is being done and the effect it is having on you will help you in your inward journey.

There will be many challenges, but the three biggest ones will be getting up at 3.30 am (for only 5 days!), keeping awake for the whole of the 8th -9th night (the overnite concert program) and speaking minimally to anyone during the events. We are trying to help you climb the inner Mount Everest. For that to be possible you will have to be very strong, both physically and mentally so that you are able to touch the spiritual summit which is the ultimate aim of this entire exercise. Once you get a taste of this, many of your current pursuits will seem meaningless.

I therefore request you to start practicing the following from today: Keep a 'fast' from your cell phone for one hour initially, increasing the duration slowly, till you are able to do without it for one whole day, before the Convention.

Get up earlier than you normally do every day, bringing the time finally to 3.30 am (and sleeping at 10 pm), again before the Convention. Eat simply and less and do not put anything into your mouth more than 3 times a day - not wasting a single morsel of food or water or electricity. Do some form of physical exercise (maybe yoga) and some form of mental exercise (maybe meditation), every day.

I also request you to do a little research (may be through google) on all the great people who will be part of the week long program - something about their lives and their art forms. A presentation of at least one of them should be made by each prospective participant at the weekly meeting of the chapter from where they are coming.

During the programs at the Convention, entry and exit will be very strictly controlled. This is to make sure that the meditative character is maintained in the program space throughout. Do try and use your footwear to the minimum, keeping it in your room as far as possible.

The only 'dakshina' we expect from you is following what has been stated above sincerely - you will be the final beneficiary!

All the best.

Feeling it to be an awesome sauce, Swamiji fell head over heels in love with the AanandaBhairavi of Shasthrikal. (Note: "ksheera saagara vihaara aparimita.." in AanandaBhairavi by Sri Thyagaraja Swamikal is a   DivyaPrabhandam [Utsava Sampradaya] ) Lyrics and Meaning below:   Keerthanam on Lord Sree Rama. ...
